the years after I wrote the groundbreaking 'Advice for Life', the
first book on women's AIDS prevention and education, it was my mission
to assure that the communities most affected by AIDS have real, effective
means to confront the epidemic. I never doubted that we could make
progress on every front; the women and men of Health People have proved
that belief over and over. Indeed, public health educators from five
continents have traveled to Health People's small Bronx office to
learn how to repeat our successes in their own countries!
And now we have expanded that success to childhood
asthma – slashing emergency room visits – and diabetes
and smoking cessation, we have undertaken unique initiatives to
help the new generation both be healthy and be health leaders for
their community.
